Catfish Lose Late

From the Columbus Catfish:

Tourists Comeback Tops Catfish, 7-3
Asheville scores all seven runs in last two innings

Columbus, GA ... After being shut out for seven innings the Asheville (12-10) offense busted the game open with seven runs in the final two innings to defeat Columbus (11-12) 7-3 at Golden Park Sunday. SS Chris Nelson of Decatur, GA delivered the biggest blow with a grand slam in the top of the ninth inning.

LHP Alberto Bastardo shut out the Tourists for the first six innings. He allowed just two hits and three walks and struck out six. The outing lowers his ERA to 1.65, but it was not enough for a win.

RHP Matt Gomez de Segura followed Bastardo with one perfect inning. RHP Jordan Pratt entered to begin the eighth inning and struck out the first two batters he faced. CF Dexter Fowler began the rally with a single, followed by a single from 2B Eric Young Jr. On a double steal Fowler and Young moved up to third base and second base respectively before Nelson walked to load the bases. DH Kyle Blumenthal singled to score Fowler and Young which gave Asheville a 2-1 lead.

Columbus regained the lead in the bottom of the eighth. SS Ivan DeJesus singled to lead off the inning. CF Adam Godwin laid down a sacrifice bunt to move DeJesus to second. DeJesus promptly scored on a single by LF Lucas May. May then scored on a double to right-center field by RF Sergio Pedroza.

Pratt continued to struggle in the ninth, loading the bases before he was removed for RHP Francisco Felix. Felix walked Fowler to score the tying run. After Young popped out to third base Nelson waited on a Felix pitch and slammed it out to left field for the 7-3 lead.

Pratt (1-1) took the loss, giving up his first earned runs of the season, five over 1 1/3 innings. RHP Ethan Katz (2-0) got the win and RHP James Burok earned his third save.

The fourth and final game of the series will take place Monday at 7:00pm at Golden Park. RHP James McDonald (1-1, 2.70) will make his first start of the season. RHP Zach Simons (1-1, 1.59) will throw for Asheville.

With the loss, the Catfish remain in sixth place, seven games behind division-leading Rome.

  1. Ah yes, your American "Bass Ball" - I have heard of this sporting endeaver. Hurling about the ol' pig skin, as I believe you say. Quite bracing, what? All the fine young men have such a wizard time. Seven heroic youths (or is it six - for one "stops short," eh? Hahaha!) manning their "posts" as the term goes, at the ready to dash hither and yon after the "Bass Ball" and perhaps score a "goal." Your professional athletic associations have long fascinated me - I am growing to be quite the "fanatic," watching them as I so often do on my "electric" televisor monitor. Hurrah! I say, and Hurrah again! For your "Bass Ball!"

I think you shall find I am equally adept and fluid in my understandig when discussing other topics of civic interest. For I also have a "blog," do you not know.

  2. A 'blogg'?

What is this 'blogg' thing of which you speak? It is a religion? Or a pet? I must know.
