Catfish Win 6-4 in 10

'Fish Win 6-4 on May Home Run in 10th

For the third straight game the Catfish (8-6) went into extra innings, this time beating the Tourists (8-6) by a count of 6-4 thanks to a CF Lucas May two-run home run in the top of the tenth.

Down 2-0 in the third inning Columbus took the lead on a two-out three-run homer by LF Andrew Locke, his first of the season. Asheville responded with two runs in the bottom of the third to regain the lead. In the top of the sixth the Catfish tied the game at four runs apiece on a sacrifice fly by 2B Ivan DeJesus. In the top of the tenth inning David Sutherland doubled to right field with one out. The very next batter, May, slammed his team-leading third homer of the season for a 6-4 lead.

RHP Jesus Rodriguez gave up four runs in five innings as the Catfish starter. RHP James McDonald (1-1) pitched the last two innings to earn the win for Columbus. He struck out four and did not allow a run in lowering his ERA to 1.93. RHP Brett Strickland (0-1) allowed the game-winning homer and took the loss.

The Catfish and Tourists will meet again in Asheville at 7:05pm Saturday. LHP Marlon Arias (2-0, 2.70) of the Catfish will face Asheville's LHP Jake Postlewait (1-1, 4.09) in the third game of the series.


The win, coupled with Rome's 5-4 10-inning win over Augusta puts the Catfish in second place, tied with Asheville, 3 ½ games behind Rome.
