Catfish Win Third Straight

Catfish Trample Tourists 14-10

Columbus (10-6) hitters teed off on Asheville (8-8) pitchers for the second consecutive game in a 14-10 win for the Catfish Sunday afternoon in Asheville. The 'Fish set season highs with 14 runs and 16 hits. They scored at least one run in each of five innings.

LF Drew Locke extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a 3-for-4 day that raised his season average to .372. He hit his second homer of the season in the first inning. DH Sergio Pedroza also hit his second homer of the season, with the bases loaded in the seventh inning. Pedroza finished 2-for-4 with a Catfish season high 6 RBI.

LHP Brent Leach struggled for the first time this season, allowing eight runs, seven earned, on six hits and five walks in just 2 1/3 innings. He was replaced by RHP Arismendy Castillo (2-1) who lasted 4 2/3 innings and allowed one run to earn the win. RHP Byron Binda (1-1) gave up six runs in two innings of relief and took the loss.

Having won the series in Asheville three games to one the Catfish now move on for four games against the Rome Braves. The first game in Rome is scheduled for Monday at 7:00pm. RHP Mario Alvarez (0-2, 6.75) will take the mound for Columbus.


The win, along with Rome's win, leaves the Catfish 2 ½ games back of the Braves, alone in second place.
