  1. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship. -Alexander Fraser Tytler

Sounds like a law of physics.

  2. To compliment:

"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."

  3. There are only 5 kinds of government; Monarchy (dictatorship), Oligarchy, Democracy, Anarchy, Republic.
Human Nature being the mess that it is, Oligarchy seems to be what all other forms of government collapse into eventually.
Oh, they may keep the forms or traditions of another form of government for years after the collapse, but when you see the same people, the same families, the same parties holding onto power year after year despite all efforts by the people to change things, you know you've got an Oligarchy!
Hmm... wait a minute... Oh, Oh! (ah, crap!)
