The Columbus Catfish won their sixth game of the season, taking the first game of a series with the Greenville Drive (Red Sox), 9-5 tonight at Golden Park.
Every Catfish batter had at least one hit, as they collected a season high 15 hits. The Catfish attack was led by Eduardo Perez, Russ Mitchell, and David Sutherland who all went three-for-four. Each also hit a home run.
The Catfish pitching staff had a Jekyll-Hyde performance, allowing 8 hits in the first two innings, then none for the next four. However, walks allowed Greenville to have runners in scoring position in each of those innings. Good defense by the Catfish caused 11 Greenville runners to be stranded in the game.
Jordan Pratt pitched three scoreless, hitless innings in relief to pick up the win. James McDonald pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief, allowing just two hits, but was unable to close out the ninth and pick up the save. Instead, Cory Wade came in to face the final two batters to secure Pratt's victory.
Tomorrow, the Catfish will hold an Easter Egg Hunt with the Easter Bunny after game two of the series.
While the Catfish were recording their sixth win of the season, the Rome Braves won too, staying a game in front, while the Asheville Tourists (Rockies) victory kept them tied for second place with the Catfish.
Go Catfish!
