I'm almost at a loss for words.
I saw something I never thought I'd see.
Oh, not that I doubted it. It's just that it never occurred to me that I'd see it.
And now that I've seen it, my whole perspective on life has changed.
Oh, sure, the jokes you hear ... things are hinted at. But when it's no longer a joke ... but something for real ... then it's a life-changing experience.
I went to the AARP Web site this weekend. And I saw something I didn't think I'd see.
They're advertising an event featuring Rod Stewart.
Yes, the same guy that sang the words, "Wake up, Maggie, I think I got something to say to you. It's late September and I really should be back at school..."
The same guy who sang "Hot Legs" and "Tonight's the Night" and "I Was Only Joking" and "Reason To Believe" and "You're In My Heart" and "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?"
Yes, AARP is sponsoring Rod Stewart.
My life will never be the same.
I mean, I knew I was getting old. I just didn't realize everyone else was, too.
He was on the front of the AARP magazine a while back I think. Yeah, we get it.
ReplyDeleteI went to his concert a couple of years ago. It was FANTASTIC! He sang all those songs (I think Maggie May was the last encore.) He looks great in magazines and on CD covers, but when his hair gets plastered down with sweat, he looks old.
Weekend...

Yep...know just how you feel. I just got one of those social security notices the other day telling me how much money I "won't get" when I am "older".
ReplyDeleteThis post also reminds me of a recent concert hubby took me to. Yes, remember that georgous babe with all the flowing blonde hair from 1976...one Mr. Peter Frampton... well, he now looks like George Carlin, complete with the black slacks and turtleneck and no hair. (Still ROCKS though). However... that one song he plays with the "water instrument" tube thingy... Well, as he started to play that song, something slipped and he messed up. He covered it well, but made this statement..."Oh, I must have forgotten me Poly Grip".
Like you, at that moment I knew my life would never be the same... damn getting old, let's boycott it :)
