Catfish Hold On For Win

Go Catfish! The Columbus Catfish took an early lead, then held on for dear life as they edged the Charleston Riverdogs (Yankees) 7-6 Tuesday night.

2B Travis Denker and SS Ivan De Jesus each had two hits, batted in two runs each, and each scored a run to lead the Catfish attack. CF Bridger Hunt had a hit, batted in two, and scored a run, while RF Sergio Pedroza had two doubles and an RBI.

Scoring a single run in the first and fifth inning, two in the sixth, and three runs (two unearned) in the fourth, the Catfish had a 7-4 lead. The Catfish bullpen struggled, but held off Charleston, to save the game for Mario Alvarez. Jonathan Meloan struck out four in 1-1/3 innings work, while Ramon Troncoso managed to keep the Charleston batters hitting ground balls and got out of a small jam in the ninth to pick up his team-leading 8th save.

With the win, the Catfish are now in fourth place, three games behind division-leading Augusta. The homestand continues Wednesday night.
