Calling Dr. Killbot

Robots have been in the news lately. There's a robot that's been operating on people, and killing some of them.

I know. You're thinking that the Three Laws won't let that happen. Well, guess what? The Three Laws are just fiction. Killer medical robots are real.

There's an AP report out of Chicago that tells of one busy robot:

... a million-dollar, multi-armed robot named da Vinci, used in nearly 400,000 surgeries nationwide last year ...

Did you know that? Some multi-armed robot has been doing surgery all across the country, at the rate of over 1,000 a day.

And, if that's not enough, it's a killer robot:

... the high-tech helper is under scrutiny over reports of problems, including several deaths that may be linked with it ...

If I had told you when Congress was getting ready to pass Obamacare that in 2013, we'd have killer robots operating on people, you'd've said I was a right-wing nutcase.

Yeah, well, the Associated Press backs me up. We got killer robots playing doctor. And not in the fun way.

You thought all you had to look out for was drones. But now you have to be wary of multi-armed killer medical robots.

If I were you, I'd play it safe and avoid all multi-armed robots. For a while, at least.

If this was true, liberals would oppose it

An article in the Washington Post says that universal health care actually lowers the abortion rate:

There's a direct connection between greater health coverage and lower abortion rates.

 As proof, they quote the U.N.

And everyone knows just how reliable the U.N. is.

I don't have a lot to say about this article. Except: If universal health care actually was responsible for lowering abortion rates, the left would oppose universal health care.

Deem and Pass dead? It's a trap!

Admiral Ackbar: It's a trap!

House Democrats have scrapped the "deem and pass" (AKA DemonPass) tactic for ramming through the health care takeover bill.

Now, according to the Washington Post, there will be three votes:

1. a resolution that will set the terms of debate
2. a package of amendments to the Senate bill that have been demanded by House members
3. the Senate bill itself

Admiral Ackbar's words were never truer: It's a trap.

I'm just not sure who the target of the trap is.

Is this a stalling tactic, to get the phone calls to stop? The House already voted to "suspend the rules" approve the "Slaughter Solution". That vote essentially assured the passage of Obamacare as Don Surber pointed out.

So, now I'm wondering: If they have the votes, why the sudden change in strategy?

It's a trap!

The strategy of tying the vote to "Deem and Pass" the Senate bill to the Senate bill itself was successful. There is no cover. Have the Dems decided that it's too late, and they might as well vote in the light of day and face (or damn) the consequences?

It appears so.

But this really doesn't make the most sense. To me anyway.

Note that the strategy isn't to modify the bill, but to offer a second package of amendments separately.

The plan, as I understand it, is to "make it clear" the intent of the House. But that's not how it works. If the amendments aren't attached to the Senate bill, then once approved, the Senate bill goes to the president for signature. The Senate can ignore the amendments.

If that's supposed to give House Democrats cover, it's not. What are they going to do, go crying to the voters in November, "We told the Senate we wanted these changes, but mean old Harry Reid and bad old Barack Obama broke their word. It's not my fault!"

They'll sound like a bunch of little tittie babies. Because that's what they are.

If the House Democrats want to spring a trap, it's simple: set a trap for the Senate.

Approve the amendments as part of the Senate bill, and send the modified bill back to the Senate for action. The Senate won't pass it, and the health care takeover will die.

House Democrats win because they'll say, "We passed a good bill and those mean old Republicans in the Senate killed it!" They are whiny little tittle babies, remember?

House Republicans will win because even though they'll be out-voted over the amendments, the bill will eventually die. Plus we'll get a good look at RINOs that vote for the amendments, but against the bill.

The American people will win, because this health care monstrosity will die.

The losers will be the Senate Democrats, who won't be able to pass health care. But really, do we care if Senate Democrats lose?

But, I suspect that's not the trap the House Democrats are planning.

No, they're looking to pass health care, with separate amendments, thinking that the American people like the bill, but don't like the process. They're about to find out that we don't like either.

Will: You say they have huge profits. As you know, confiscate all the profits of all the health insurance companies, with those profits you could finance our healthcare for 48 hours. What you do for the next 363 days I don't know. Second, you say there's not enough competition? Fine, let them compete in a national market across state lines.

Reich: Yes, let them compete across state lines, fine. But not a race to the bottom. Set minimum federal standards because we've seen over and over again that the recipients of health insurance don't know what they are buying very often. Until there are common standards, minimal standards, then people are going to be taken. And that is what's happened over and over again.

Will: There you have the premise of this legislation and the core of today's liberalism: the American people are such dopes they can't be counted upon to buy their own insurance.

Good idea? Or a bad idea?

That is so wrong. Yes, I laughed. Out loud. But it's still wrong.

I'm sure the people that invented this thing were sitting around, thinking this was a good idea. And that poor cat trusted the person that placed it in the PetSpa.

Only, the cat got a rude surprise. And pretty early on figured out it didn't like what was happening. But there was nothing it could do about it. The makers of the PetSpa, and the owner of the cat, decided it was best.

They'll try that again on that cat. Only, I suspect that, unless they've de-clawed that cat, they next time they try it, the cat with have its on rude surprise.

I wonder if I could use this as an analogy to anything?

Democrats explain Americans' opposition to health care proposals

With more and more Americans opposing the Democrats' many versions of a health care bill, the Obama administration and the Congressional leadership are finding it difficult selling their plans to their own party members.

The president is traveling to various cities, looking to build support for his agenda.

Harry Reid and the Pages of Gold

The Senate version of the health care bill is out. And it's big. And expensive. And puts J. K. Rowling to shame.

Let me explain.

The bill is 2,074 pages long.

CNN reports the cost of the bill, over 10 years, is calculated at $849,000,000,000

That's $409,353,905.50 per page.

J. K. Rowling's seven-book Harry Potter series sold 325-million copies in the first 10 years. At 4,195 pages, at the hardcover price of $24.95, that works out to $8,108,750,000 in sales (and the amount is less, if any of those sales were cheaper paperback versions).

Amount per page sold in a Harry Potter book? $1,932,955.90

That means a single page of the Senate bill is worth 211.7 times more than a page from a Harry Potter book.

Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) says he will read the entire bill aloud on the Senate floor before allowing a vote.

I hope he does. And I hope he then reads the entire Harry Potter series aloud. Then, Harry Reid can see if his bill is really worth more than a Harry Potter book.

One final thought: both Rowling and Reid are masters of fiction. The difference is that I have the choice of not buying Rowling's writings. Reid demands I pay for his.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help you

The government has taken over the auto industry, banking, and is looking to take over health care. But has the government done enough? I don't think they have. The government needs to do more. Just like there are people in this country who don't have health care, there are people in this country who are going hungry. Sure, there are food stamps. But there's Medicare and Medicaid for health care assistance, but that's not enough. Just like we need the government to take over health care, we need the government to take over the food industry. We need to raise taxes to pay for a "public option" for restaurants. My vision is for the Obama King restaurant to offer healthy choices for your dining experience. Like tofu. And salads. Lots and lots of salads. And no fried foods. Certainly no meat. A complete vegan menu, consisting of ... plant parts. But do call ahead to avoid the lines. It'll take a year or two for McDonald's, Hardee's, Wendy's, and all the little Mom and Pop restaurants to go out of business as people move to the public option. But, soon enough, the Obama King restaurants will be everywhere. Sure, you might have to wait a while, even if you call ahead. That is, after you are placed on hold for an hour or two, but your call will be answered in the order in which it was received. Speaking of phones, it would be bad for you to have a cell phone when there are plenty of others who don't have a cell phone. We need a public option. The government can provide cellular service. O-Mobile would be available to everyone. But cell phones aren't the only technology area where Americans have a gap. Not everyone has a computer. Sure, lots do, but many Americans don't have a computer. And the government can help, by offering a public option. After a while, there will be no more PCs or Macs. No debate between Windows, OS X, or Linux. Most Americans will own government computers that run one OS: O-S (the Obama System). However, having a government issued computer doesn't mean as much if you don't have Internet access. AT&T, Knology, MediaCom, and the other ISPs don't get the job done. Many people don't have Internet access. A government-run public option would solve that. ObamaNet would allow everyone to be on the Internet. There are just a few of the many, many ways the government can solve your problems by taking control of your life. I mean, if you were really competent to do things for yourself, you wouldn't have elected Obama and the Democrats to power, would you?

DNC-organized grassroots rally

Around the country, many protests against the health care bill in Congress have been held. The Democrats have criticized the protests, calling them "astroturf" -- fake grassroots -- protests. Tuesday, in Columbus, the Democrats staged their own rally, this one in support of the health care bill: [YouTube direct link] The Columbus Tea Party is planning a protest on September 12.

Surrender monkeys surrender. Or did they?

Remember that whole government-run health care bill? You should. It's been in all the papers. And on all the blogs. And on the Twitter and the Facespace and all the other Interwebz. Remember how important it was that it be done now? "Why the rush?" we on the right asked. "Trust us," the left said. "BS!" we on the right said. Well, conservatives stood firm. Most of them. Those that haven't, well, I'm not too sure they're conservatives, anyway. Might be Republicans, but that don't mean conservative. Now, according to news reports, the White House seems to have backed down. "Seems to," is the key phrase. It's too early to tell if they have surrendered, or if they're just going to find another "Gang of 14" and ram it through anyway. On the one hand, Democrats are cheese-eating surrender monkeys: On the other hand, Democrats are also sneaky little weasels. And "moderate" Republicans will "go along to get along," and be taken advantage of. That's why the motto of the moderate wing of the Republican Party is "Thank You Sir May I Have Another." Remember how, in Iraq, some of Saddam's soldiers would fake surrender, then pull out weapons and shoot our soldiers? That's because they had no honor. And neither do Democrats. So, we shouldn't let up just yet. Government-run health care isn't dead until it's shot, stabbed, beaten, burned, with the ashes mixed in goat blood and fed to Ted Kennedy and John Dingell, and the whole thing videoed and posted on YouTube. Even then, I don't trust the Democrats. Or moderate Republicans. They'll just write another bill that's as bad. Or worse. Or nearly as bad. The thing is, they won't write a good bill. Any bill that's too long to sit through an oral reading is a bad bill. The thing people are forgetting is that 10% of health care expenses are criminal fraud. And unintentional errors accounts for more waste. Until that's fixed, increasing government spending on health care will increase the amount of money lost to fraud. Of course, when you have a government run by Chicago crooks, they don't see fraud as a problem, but as an opportunity to line their pockets. The good news is, these types won't stand up to an honest fight. They'll fight dirty, but can't stand honest debate. As long as the fight is honest, the right (moral and political) will win. And the surrender monkeys? They'll just sit and yell and fling poo. Like always.
