Note to the stomping grounds: Beware socialists bearing gifts

I grew up in southeast Georgia. What growing up I did, at least, occurred over there. I lived there nearly 40 years. And I'll always consider that part of the state "home."

So, I want to warn the good people of that area to beware. Barack Obama is coming.

I didn't grow up in Savannah, but my high school was in the same sports region with most of the Savannah schools. When we watched TV, it was one of the stations in Savannah. So, though Savannah isn't home, it's near there.

The president will be in Savannah Tuesday. According to a Washington Post story, Obama wants to sell his stimulus package.
Obama plans to visit this charming coastal city on Tuesday to lead a day of meetings aimed at highlighting his economic policies and shoring up support for his ambitious but endangered domestic agenda.
I can only assume his TelePrompTer will be there, too. Although it would be funny as hell watching Obama stumble around without it. His TelePrompTer has a mastery of the English language; Obama has a mystery of the English language.

But selling his stimulus in person? Well, considering that Obama has only been on TV ... every day for the past two years ... it's no wonder people haven't heard what he had to say.

It's true that Obama is having trouble selling his plans. Savannah's mayor, Democrat Otis S. Johnson, says, "The speed in which the applications have been approved has really been a little frustrating." And he's an Obama supporter.

Maybe Obama is having trouble because his Obama's spend, spend, spend policy means that the deficit is getting larger, larger, larger. And how will Obama and the Socialists wearing Democratic clothing solve it? Taxes, taxes, taxes.

So, what do you do about it?

I'd suggest to the people of the area that they ignore Obama. Go about your business. Act like he's not even there.

On the other hand, after January 20, 2013, you might not ever see him again. This may be your last chance.

Bag Lady food

While in Savannah this weekend, we ate at Paula Deen's place.

The Wife likes to watch the Food Network. And she's been wanting to go to Paula Deen's restaurant in Savannah. The Lady and Sons.

She's the Food Network fan, not me. I like food, you see. A lot. But I don't want to watch it on TV. I want to eat it.

The thing is, I just didn't "get" the whole Paula Deen thing. But I'm not "dissing" it or putting it down in any way. But to most people, she's a Food Network star. The Wife included.

To me, she's the Bag Lady.

I remember when she made a name for herself when she started up her business. Because I read the Savannah newspaper and watched Savannah TV when I lived over in that part of the state. For the first, on, 30-something years of my life. Anyway, suddenly, one day, Paula Deen was a TV star.

And good for her.

And I'm happy that many people get to experience her food. Because her food is South Georgia cooking. And lots of folks don't get to experience it. And that struck home today.

We were sitting in The Lady and Sons when the waitress brought us the biscuits and cornbread.

And the couple at a table near us didn't know what it was.

I had to listen to the waitress explain the biscuits and cornbread.

Actually, the cornbread.

They had never seen flat cornbread.

Probably because they weren't from around there. Or anywhere near there.

Which shows to a degree that I grew up eating food like you eat at Paula Deen's.

The macaroni and cheese tasted a whole lot like the way a great-aunt made it. And the fried chicken a lot like another lady I knew used to make hers.

In other words, it was good eatin' ... and like the eatin' I was used to coming up.

The Wife was the one that wanted to go to Paula Deen's place to eat. But I think I enjoyed it more.

Mall panties

We took off to head to Savannah for a couple of days.

The impetus was my brother-in-law singing the National Anthem at a baseball game in Savannah on Friday night.

As it turned out, the game they asked to sing was a game between the Savannah Sand Gnats, my old team, and the Columbus Catfish, my current (but soon to be departed) team.

So, we decided to not only go to the game (or games, as it turned out) Friday, but to stay for the Saturday game as well.

Which meant spending the day in Savannah.

Which meant going to the mall.

So, we went to Savannah Mall.

And, on one end of Savannah Mall, on the second floor, is a Target. And, naturally, after stopping by the crafts store, we headed to Target.

Outside Target, on the floor, were some panties.

Black panties.

Not sure why.

Don't know if someone tried to get away with stealing them from Target and didn't quite succeed.

Or if the owner was in such a hurry she couldn't wait and tore them off.

Or if they just fell off.

Or if Tom Jones is making the mall circuit (a la Tiffany).

Or what.

I'm content to leave it as "or what."

There are some things it's best to not know.
