MST3K: Episode 622 - Angels Revenge

I'm watching all of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes in order. More about that here and here.

Episode 622: Angels Revenge

First aired: Comedy Central on 11 March 1995
Availability: Amazon DVD (Volume 2), Rhino (Volume 2/out of print), MST3KVideos.com

Angels' Brigade.
Say you're an actor.

Say your career isn't as fulfilling as it once was.

Say you feel you still have a lot to offer your fans and the entertainment-going public.

Now, saying it doesn't make it true, but work with me on this.

Next, say that you're approached to do a film by the guy responsible for Black Shampoo and Satan's Cheerleaders.

The correct answer is, of course, run screaming and, since it's 1979, get an unlisted number and enjoy your retirement from show business.

But, that's not what Jack Palance did. Turns out he'd return to glory in City Slickers many years later. However, that wasn't the fate for his co-stars Peter Lawford, Jim Backus, Pat Buttram, and Arthur Godfrey.

Their careers never experienced a bump, and, within 10 years, 3 of those four co-stars were dead. But, you can't blame the film for their deaths. Probably.

You see, if the film had been to blame, all of them would have shuffled off this mortal coil by the end of 1979. Instead, it took a while for them to depart this world. So, no, this film isn't to blame.

Probably.

But, still, you have to wonder: why did they agree to do this film. Could it have been the fact that one of the stars was Playboy's Miss January 1977.

Enough of who was in the movie. What's the movie all about?

The younger brother of a Vegas singer (the aforementioned Miss January) is beaten up after stealing drugs, so the singer and the boy's teacher band together with a bunch of other hotties and decide to shut down Peter Lawford's and Jack Palance's drug smuggling business in Los Angeles, which seems to run through a small building on a dirt road, so they steal guns and explosives from Jim Backus, buy a van from Mr. Haney, and clean up LA once and for all. The end.

It's supposed to be a rip-off of Charlie's Angels, in title if nothing else. And, it succeeds. At least, it succeeds in being a bad film. Though I don't know for sure that was the intent.

Bad acting, bad plot, some pretty good riffing. What's not to love?

  1. Or, as Crow put it:

"All right; you know what? I'm just giving in, and looking at the breasts."

    1. I gave in a long time before he did. I'm not saying I'm proud of that. But, I'm not ashamed, either. Probably because I have no shame.
