Best and Worst of 2013

2013 sucked.

Okay, there were some good things in the year, but overall, it wasn't a great year. It was a bad year for many people.

I'd like to ask what, in your opinion, was the best and the worst of 2013.

Let me offer a couple of things.

Obamacare. And that's one of the best. No, not Obamacare in and of itself. That was way up near the top of the list for the worst. But, the fact that people finally understood what conservatives such as I have been saying all along: Obama and the Democrats are completely incompetent, can't be trusted, and will screw up anything they get near. Obamacare is such a massive fail, that even some of the idiots in my family that voted for that jackass have even come to doubt things. Not completely, since, as I said, some of them are idiots, but it's a start.

Anyway, the reaction to Obamacare is a good thing. It gives me a slim hope that people will understand that Democrats are to be avoided like the plague.

Worst of 2013? Well, on a personal level, it's the split. I haven't spoken much about it, but these things happen. Always puts a crimp in the finances, which is difficult when the economy is good, and really difficult when we're in the 5th year of Obama screwing things up. Oh, well. Stuff happens. It's not the first time I've been through this. Besides, I really don't want to talk about it.

How about you? What, to you, are the best and worst things of 2013?

  3. Well, if it's any comfort, I had my first split this year. So... here's to us, and here's hoping for a full recovery in 2014.

  6. best: a good record player, amp and speakers for my Beatles remastered on vinyl.

worst: being raped by the government year after year in the name of compassion

  7. worst of 2013: floating between relatives after being laid off and replaced with a contractor so the company could avoid paying health insurance (thanks, Obamacare!), death of my dog, losing pregnancy with no health insurance and doctors turning us away refusing to do anything (thanks, Obamacare!), still being unable to afford health insurance since the premium is more than the payment on both our cars combined or our mortgage (thanks, Obamacare!).

best of 2013: Moving to Texas, rediscovering REAL America and feeling like we're finally "home", finding new awesome jobs.

  8. The best for me was starting a business. My wife, technically started it, but it's both of us really. Dog beds with matching home decor. Hate to plug myself in the comments, (heh-heh) but check out our website: www.ezlivinghome.com.

Worst: Our 15 year-old dog Cartman died two days after Christmas. Actually, we had to have him euthanized. I think it's twice as hard when you have to arrange it and watch it coming than if it happens suddenly. He was in really bad shape and he's in a better place now, but man, was that rough.

  9. Worst: The sudden passing of several beloved family members and a close friend within weeks of each other.

Best: Very little outside of the transitory, anodyne qualities of Bushmills.

  10. Worldwide worst: typhoon. National worst: another year of Obama. Personal worst: buried oldest friend last Friday.

    Best: Nuthin'.

  11. Best: continuing to live in Iowa. I just finished shoveling snow, but I'd still rather be here than in Silicon Valley, where I lived for thirty-four years.

Worst: continuing to live in a country run by the likes of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Susan Rice, and Valerie Jarrett.

  14. Pretty bad year here. Lost my dad to an insidious disease, seemingly fine one day and gone less than a month later. Didn't know he had it and there was no cure for it either. Diagnosed less than a week before he passed. Watched him deteriorate every day as his symptoms got worse. Also lost a good hunting buddy, he was murdered in the shooting in Ross Township, PA Supervisors meeting saving a woman's life shielding her from the shooter.

I've got my wife and kids and my job, but still this year is going to be one I would rather put behind me, but I know both will be with me for quite a while...

  16. @15 Jimmy--not even Johnny Carson could get away with that one; do you remember the time (I think he was talking about not wanting to go to a nude beach) he used the phrase "…because some people look like a sack of cats heading for the river" followed immediately by "Please, no letters" with a blush and a head shake?

  17. Worst: wife in hospital, then nursing home, following complications from work-related accident.
Best: Workman's Comp covered the medical bills (so far).

  18. Sorry, CCO, I'm sitting an evil cat for my son. It thinks it's privileged and can get away with anything. So, I'm ready to chuck it into a wall and have managed to make it understand that death is imminent if it continues to misbehave on my tables and counter tops.
