Catfish end first half splitting with Rome

The South Atlantic League 2008 season first half wrapped up Sunday afternoon for the Columbus Catfish with a doubleheader split with the Rome Braves.

The Catfish won the first game, 4-1, but dropped the latter, 3-0, as they take a break for the SAL All-star game.

Columbus only managed seven hits in the doubleheader but did slip past the Braves in Game 1.

Cody Cipriano had a big day in his first home game for the Catfish since coming off of the disabled list. He went 1-for-2 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Chase Fontaine went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

The Catfish scored three runs in the fourth.

Rome's Edgar Osuna allowed only one hit over five innings of work to stop the Catfish in Game 2.

Tuesday's All-star game feature two Catfish players: P Alex Cobb and OF Maiko Loyola. OF Emeel Salem also made the roster, but suffered a season-ending injury in early May.

The second half opens Thursday, with the Catfish hosting Charleston.
