Catfish sack Rome

When in Rome ... kick some serious butt.

The Columbus Catfish, who had dropped 19 of 23 ... including a 12-in-a-row streak just a few days ago ... broke out big time, clobbering the Rome Braves 11-1 Friday night in Rome.

Columbus took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning. Chase Fontaine doubled and scored on Quinn Stewart's double. Henry Wrigley singled in Stewart.

In the sixth, Wrigley doubled in two runs before Stephen Vogt's triple drove in Wrigley for a 6-0 led. Maiko Loyola's sacrifice fly later scored Vogt, making it 7-0.

Rome got a run back in the bottom of the sixth, but Columbus answered with three more in the seventh. Chase Fontaine (single) and Gregory Sexton (double) scored on Stewart's single. Michael McCormick later hit a sacrifice fly that scored Stewart, giving Columbus a 10-1 lead.

Wrigley had 4 hits, Stewart -- who was playing in his first game this season as a member of the Catfish ... had 3 hits. Fontaine ... also playing in his first game as a Catfish ... had a pair of hits, as did Sexton and Vogt.

Brain Flores picked up his 5th win, allowing a run on 3 hits in 7 innings. Jose Angel Mejias finished the game for the Catfish.

Game 2 of the 3-game series is Saturday night.
