Catfish take series from Rome

Following a heartbreaker the night before, the Columbus Catfish scored late to take the finale of the series with the Rome Braves, 5-3. The win gives the Catfish the series, 2 games to 1.

Columbus scored in the first inning after Maiko Loyola singled, stole second and later scored on a Chase Fontaine single for the 1-0 score. In the second, Rome took the lead after Freddie Freeman doubled and Michael Fisher singled. Yohan Silva then doubled to score Freeman tying the game. Samuel Sime then hit a sacrifice fly to score Fisher giving Rome the 2-1 advantage.

In the eighth inning, the Catfish tied the game 2-2 on a Chase Fontaine RBI single. Columbus took the lead in the ninth scoring three runs highlighted by RBI singles by Ian Paxton and Shawn Williams making the score and the final 5-2.

Glen Gibson gets the win (2-8) for Columbus while Yelier Castro gets the loss (0-3). Justin Garcia earns the save, his first of the season.


The Catfish travel to Savannah Monday to open a 4-game series.
