A bicycle built for joy...

Got my third bike recently. Bike, as in bicycle.

My first was a Pee-Wee Herman-looking bike when I was, maybe, 10. The second was something I bought at Ft. Belvoir to help me get around post. This one's the third. And, it's another Pee-Wee Herman-looking bike.

When I was younger, I never had one of those multi-speed bikes. So, I never got the whole 10-speed (the big deal when I was young) thing. Or the brakes on the handles. Had I had one of those bikes, I'd have got used to it early on. And, when I got the bike at Ft. Belvoir, I had to get used to the multi-speed thing, as well as the handle bar brakes.

Wife got a bike recently. She got it as a prize at work for ... showing up or something. Anyway, I decided to get a bicycle, too, so we could go riding together. So, I did. And I decided to get an old-fashioned type.

Today, I pumped up the tires and adjusted the seat and we rode for a bit.

That seat ain't gonna work. I'm thinking I need one a little wider. And shaped a little different. I'm thinking I might take a seat off a riding lawn mower. Or get a U-shaped toilet seat. Because the current seat is ... uncomfortable. And there are some areas where I demand comfort.

We'll see if this works out, or if I was nuts to buy it. So to speak.

  1. Basil, I did a post about this very thing a while back.

    Get one of these.

There is probably some other junk in the post that is not applicable. I don't remember.

    But, GET ONE OF THESE!!!

  2. I knew I had seen something like that somewhere. Got the bike at the K-Mart, so I'll head over to the Wal-Mart tomorrow and get me one of those.

    Thanks for the tip!

  3. Basil, seriously. It makes all the difference.

  4. I was going to recommend a wide-ass mattress saddle (something I've installed on all my bikes for the last 20+ years), but Andy's seems to be the same thing, except without that useless, ball-clanging nose.
