Catfish Fall To Rome, Still In Second Place

The Columbus Catfish dropped a 6-2 decision to the division-leading Rome Braves tonight on the road. Starter Mario Alvarez pitched five innings, striking out seven, but allowing four unearned runs to be charged with the loss.

Three errors, two in the second and one in the fifth, allowed the four unearned runs to score, and were the deciding factor in the game.

The loss drops the Catfish 3 ½ games behind Rome, while Asheville's and Savannah's wins tonight brought them to third place, a game back of the Catfish.

The Catfish series with Rome continues tomorrow night.
