The "Best" Movies: Recap, part 15

I'm giving a rundown of the "best" movies (details about the list are here). So far, I've covered 140 of 222. Here are the next 10:
  • Shakespeare in Love Blu-Ray
    Best Picture (1998)
It was cute in places. But Best Picture? Well, 1998 was the year that "3 Ninjas," "Star Trek: Insurrection," and "The Big Lebowski" came out.
  • Shane
    #69 Top 100 (1998)
    #45 Top 100 (2007)
    #3 Western
Alan Ladd saves the day then rides off dead. Good film.
  • Shrek Blu-Ray
    #8 Animation
    This is the good one.
  • Singin' in the Rain Blu-Ray
    #10 Top 100 (1998)
    #5 Top 100 (2007)
Another one that I wanted to like. I didn't hate it. But still.
  • Sleepless in Seattle
    #10 Romantic comedy
One of two movies where Rosie O'Donnell appears but doesn't make completely unwatchable.
  • Slumdog Millionaire Blu-Ray
    Best Picture (2009)
They went a little overboard with the setup of how awful his life as a child was -- really unpleasant in places -- but this was a good film.
  • Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Blu-Ray
    #49 Top 100 (1998)
    #34 Top 100 (2007)
    #1 Animation
This Disney classic is a good one.
  • Some Like It Hot
    #14 Top 100 (1998)
    #22 Top 100 (2007)
Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon in drag. And it works. Yes, I liked it. Well, nobody's perfect.
  • Sophie's Choice
    #91 Top 100 (2007)
Meryl Streep does another accent movie. She won the Oscar for this one. Heart-wrenching. If you don't know, at a Nazi death camp, Sophie has to make the choice of which of her two children gets to live.
  • Spartacus
    #81 Top 100 (2007)
    #5 Epics
Good film. Really. By the way, I didn't see it until earlier this year. I always figured the "I'm Spartacus" scene was at the end of the film. It's near the end, but I seem to recall it happening with nearly an hour left.
150 down. 72 more to go. Another 10 coming up soon.
