Catfish drop one to Greenville, 4-1

The Columbus Catfish fell behind early and couldn't recover.

The Greenville Drive (Red Sox) held on to beat the Catfish tonight, 4-1, in the opener of a 4-game home series.

Two singles, a double, a walk, and a wild pitch allowed Greenville to take a 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning.

A solo homer in the 4th gave Greenville a 4-0 lead.

With 2 outs in the bottom of the 4th, 3B Gregory Sexton doubled. After RF Quinn Stewart walked, DH Stephen Vogt singled to left, scoring Sexton and cutting the Greenville lead to 4-1.

The Catfish didn't get another hit the rest of the way. On the positive side, the Catfish bullpen only allowed one hit in the final 5-plus innings.

Starter Jason Ragan allowed 4 runs ... two earned ... on 7 hits in 3-2/3 innings before leaving with a leg injury. Reliever Jose Mejias went 3-1/3 innings, allowing 1 hit. Kevin Boggan pitched 2 perfect innings.

The loss was the Catfish' 7th in 9 games. Saturday night, the two teams face off in game 2 of the 4-game series.
