10-run 5th does in Catfish

ColumbusCatfishThe Columbus Catfish were done in by a big inning Thursday night.

The West Virginia Power (Brewers) bested the Catfish for the 2nd straight night. The 11-4 loss was the 3rd in 4 games for the Catfish and knocked them out of first place in the South Atlantic League Southern Division.

The previous night, West Virginia scored 9 runs combined in the 6th & 7th innings to secure the win.

Thursday night, it was a double-digit 5th that did in the Catfish.

The Power scored 10 runs in the fifth inning Thursday night at Appalachian Power Park and went on to an 11-4 victory. West Virginia beat Columbus 14-4 on Wednesday.

The Catfish took a 2-0 lead in the first inning Thursday on a pair of solo homers by Maiko Loyola and Reid Fronk.

Quinn Stewart hit a two-run homer for the Catfish in the eighth.

Columbus starter Jeremy Hall gave up a run in the fourth before the Power exploded for 10 runs in the fifth, seven off Hall. Woods Fines gave up the last three in the fifth.


Game three of the series is Friday night. The Catfish must win in order to have a chance to salvage a series split with West Virginia.
