Kannapolis cleans Catfish' clock

After edging the Kannapolis Intimidators (White Sox) two nights straight, tonight's game wasn't close.

Kannapolis beat the Columbus Catfish 6-1, behind the power of Mark Fleisher, who hit two home runs and drove in 5 runs.

Kannapolis jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, on Fleisher's 2-run blast off Catfish starter Alex Cobb.

The Catfish got a run back in the bottom of the inning. Leadoff man SS Shawn O'Malley was hit by a pitch, stole second, and moved to third on an error. He came in on a sac fly by 2B Chase Fontaine, and the Catfish were down by a run, 2-1.

Kannapolis scored 3 in the third, on a solo homer by C Matt Inouye and Fleisher's second 2-run homer.

Fleisher drove in another run in the 5th inning, his 5th RBI of the night, capping the scoring.

Cobb left the game with a wrist injury following Inouye's homer in the 3rd. He finished allowing 3 runs on 3 hits in 2-plus innings work. Reliever Glenn Gibson allowed 3 runs on 6 hits in 3 innings. Josh Johnson scattered 3 hits in 3 innings. Travis Barnett pitched a perfect 9th.

LF Stephen Vogt went 3-for-4 for the Catfish. 3B Greg Sexton was 2-for-4.

The Catfish left 8 runners on base, 3 in scoring position.
