Catfish win 11-inning thriller

A 1-1 pitchers' duel went to extra innings Thursday night.

Things looked bad for the Columbus Catfish when the Augusta GreenJackets (Giants) scored 4 runs in the 11th. But a 5-run bottom of the inning, capped by 3B Greg Sexton's 3-run homer, gave the Catfish a 6-5 win.

The Catfish took a 1-0 lead in the 4th when LF Stephen Vogt led off the inning with a solo shot over the wall in right-center.

Augusta tied the game with a run in the 6th.

Both teams threatened in the 9th. Augusta stranded runners at second and third. The Catfish had 2B Seth Dhaenens thrown out at home while trying to score on a double by Vogt. The inning ended with Vogt stranded at third.

In the top of the 11th, Augusta broke it open, scoring 4 runs, setting up an improbable comeback by the Catfish.

C Mike McCormick led off the bottom of the inning with a homer over the scoreboard in left. With 1 out, Vogt doubled to left. SS Omar Luna singled Vogt home, them moved to third on a single by CF Reid Fronk, setting up Sexton's game-winning homer.

Starter Alex Cobb went 5-2/3 innings, allowing a run on 3 hits, striking out 9.

The series concludes Friday night.
