Tim Conway's elephant story

This weekend, my niece competed in the Miss Columbus teen pageant. Did well. Very well.

They don't live around here. They still live in southeast Georgia, and it's a long story about how she came to compete in the teen portion of the Miss Columbus pageant.

She's the daughter of the middle sister, the Mean One.

She's got a lot of her mother in her. Her sense of humor, at least.

And that's key.

When we got together Friday afternoon, after they got to Columbus, and started catching up. And, like always, the conversation went all over the place. Maybe you know how it is: one thing reminds you of something else, and that reminds someone of something else, and so on and so on...

And somewhere along the way, the subject of Carol Burnett or Tim Conway came up. Probably talk about vacations, which led to Las Vegas, which led to The Wife and I seeing Tim Conway and Harvey Korman there a few years ago, which led to the Carol Burnett Show, which led to a video I saw on YouTube... which led to this post.

We used to watch the Carol Burnett Show. Enjoyed it a lot. And, of course, when Tim Conway appeared and cracked up the cast, particularly Harvey Korman, it was very special.

But, the odd thing is, one of the funniest appearances of Tim Conway was after Harvey Korman left the show.

It was a Family sketch (The Family skits were later spun off as the show Mama's Family) that had Eunice (Carol) on the couch, trying to talk to Mama/Thelma (Vicki Lawrence) while Mickey (Tim) wouldn't shut up about elephants.

Conway had gone off script ... something he did a lot ... and kept the other actors cracking up.

My niece enjoyed it. A lot. I did, of course.

And I hope you did, too.

Thank you and the wife for coming to see your niece. We were both thrilled to see you and spend time with you both.
