Misunderestimating The Audience

WAR ... Wide Awakes Radio ... launched at 9:00 AM Tuesday. And is now off the air.

But not for long.

You see, the plan was to launch on the Fourth of July and hope to build an audience. And, as the audience built, a new server being installed would be in place to handle it.

So much for that plan.

Turns out the audience was underestimated. There were so many people listening that the server was brought to near-crashing. So, Kender, who's the bossman for WAR, has decided to step back, get the new server installed, and relaunch with equipment better able to handle the load.

So, what does all this mean?

Beats me.

Actually, it sounds like a risk was taken ... and WAR ... me included, remember? ... got bit. You see, my understanding is that Kender had plans for a dedicated server to be installed, but couldn't get it installed in time for a Fourth of July launch. Which means that either WAR would have to push back launch ... or WAR would risk crashing the temporary server.

Since it was a new network, the feeling was that there wouldn't be enough traffic to endanger the temporary server, so the July 4th launch was okay, and the switchover to the new, permanent server could happen with not big fuss.

So much for that plan.

WAR is not in retreat. No, no, no. Not at all. WAR is getting additional supplies delivered.

Will WAR relaunch Saturday, when the new server is installed?

Well, that's the plan. But WAR doesn't need to relaunch until the new equipment is in place and well-tested.

Still, this weekend is the plan. And I hope we can get everything in place to make it happen.

This weekend's schedule is in flux because of the relaunch. So, will I have my Sunday afternoon program on from 3:00-4:30 ET? Well, I don't know. If the WAR crew needs that timeslot to complete the relaunch, they'll have that slot. Many, many guests were scheduled to appear on the air this week by the various hosts, and those appearances will have to be rescheduled. And, if Sunday during my show is when they have to do it, then that's what will happen.

So, I might get bumped from this weekend. I don't know for sure, but it's possible. So, I'll be ready to go Sunday afternoon, but I won't be surprised if I get bumped. Whatever needs to happen is fine with me.

WAR is not broadcasting right now. A little too successful, it seems, on launch day. We'll be ready for the load come relaunch.

WAR is coming! Again!

  1. Sever Meltdown...

We got more listeners today than our temporary sever could handle. Kender our fearless leader was forced to shut down our live radio stream until our permanent dedicated sever arrives Friday...(more)...

  3. Sounds like you have your own soap opera going on there. Until you relaunch, all I can do is sing the Edwin Starr song: "War, what is it good for ... "
