Catfish Lose Big

A scheduling conflict kept me from making last night's Catfish game. And, as it turned out, I didn't miss much. Unless you count what the Charleston Riverdogs (Yankees) did.

From the Columbus Catfish:

RiverDogs Walk Way to Victory over Catfish, 11-2
Pedroza, Justis homer for Columbus

Columbus, GA ... Columbus pitchers struggled with control as the Catfish (8-7) lost 11-2 to the Charleston RiverDogs (7-8) Thursday at Golden Park. The Catfish allowed 15 hits and 10 walks and could not keep up offensively.

Charleston took a 4-0 lead before Columbus scored in the sixth inning. RF Sergio Pedroza smacked the first pitch he saw out to right field for his league-leading 19th home run.

The RiverDogs scored seven runs in the last three innings for an 11-1 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. The last Catfish run scored on a pinch-hit home run by Shane Justis. It was his fourth of the season.

Starter RHP Cory Wade gave up four runs on eight hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings. It was the first time all season he walked more than one batter. Wade (5-4) suffered the loss.

RHP Bryan Villalona (7-4) allowed just one run in the first seven innings to earn the win. He gave up six hits and one walk.

1B Jason Mooneyham went 1-for-4 with a double. He has reached base in 29 straight games and each of 23 home games with Columbus.

The series will wrap up with game four at 7:00pm. RHP James McDonald (2-6, 3.67) will start against LHP Wilkins Arias (5-4, 3.76). For tickets or more information call (706) 571-8866 or visit
