They sure don't happen often, but the Columbus Catfish managed to pull of a one-run win this afternoon. In a game that last just over three weeks, (actually 3:44 with no delays) the Catfish scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to take a come-from-behind 11-10 victory over the Asheville Tourists (Rockies). It's only the 4th one-run win this season for the Catfish out of 19 such contests.
Pitcher Chris Malone, who flirted with a perfect game last week, was hit around today. Then again, since the teams combined fo 37 hits, nearly everyone was. Except Carol Alvarez, who pitch the final three innings and took the win.
Of our two players, Dan Batz (by the way, he's featured player on the Catfish Web site) went 2-for-4 with a run scored (winning run was scored by Sam Steidl, runnin for Dan). Lucas May was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. And our player from last year, Brandon Carter, snapped out of a slump, going 3-for-4, scoring a run, knocking in three, including the winning run. And 3rd baseman Blake DeWitt, considered a top prospect for the Dodgers, hit for the cycle and had 4 RBIs.
Overall, a great team effort from the Catfish. Despite the long, hot game, they were all smiles afterwards.
Monday, they close out the short home stand and series with the Tourists, before heading on the road for eight games.
