Catfish Drop One To Savannah

The Columbus Catfish dropped a Sunday afternoon game to the Sand Gnats (Nationals) in Savannah, 3-1.

Savannah scored two runs in the second inning on Scott Schade's two-run homer. That shot, plus Savannah C Brian Peacock's single to lead off the inning were two of the only four hits allowed by starter James McDonald, who was nonetheless charged with his 6th loss.

The Catfish got on the board in the 6th inning on 3B Russ Mitchell's 10th home run (second best on the team) of the season.

In the ninth inning, a Catfish threat was stifled when RF Sergio Pedroza was struck out with runners on second and third.

McDonald has the best ERA of Catfish starters, but lack of run support has contributed to his 2-6 won-loss record.

The Catfish and Savannah are even in this series at two-games apiece. They conclude their series Monday night.
