The interview panel is ready...
First question...
What was it like to have your husband deployed to Iraq, have him come back for a visit that I'm sure was way too short, only for him to have to go back?
It was almost as if he hadn't really come home. As soon as we found out he was going back, the next question was - OK, when will he be home? Of course every military spouse knows that the first date they give you always changes and 99% of the time it's later than the original date. In our case he went from a three month deployment to a seven month deployment. The key to making it through any separation is staying busy and keeping a good sense of humor. I'm very proud of my husband and my thoughts are with all the other soldiers and spouses dealing with a deployment today. I also think about all the families who live through the nightmare all of us fear - the death or injury of their soldier. I think how easily that could have been me.
What's the best job you ever had?
As a first lieutenant in the Army I worked in the Brigade S3 shop (operations section) and ran my own section with five soldiers. We were responsible for tracking all of the brigade operations in Central and South America. I had a lot of responsibility and I really enjoyed working with the soldiers in my section.
What's the snarkiest thing you ever said?
The night I met my husband he gave me some version of the "haven't I seen you somewhere before" line. My answer to him was "no." Then I turned back around and continued talking to my friend. Luckily he was persistent. We went out on our first date the next day.
If you could live one day over again, what day would that be?
I have no big regrets so there's nothing I would want to go back and change in my life. I had a very happy childhood but I can't think of a particular day I would want to live over again. I guess I would pick a summer day around the time I was ten.
What's the best thing about blogging?
Getting to share ideas about important (and sometimes not so important) issues.
Describe a perfect day.
I'm on vacation with my family on some exotic beach. After playing with my kids in the crystal-blue, warm water I kick back with a really good book. Later that day, I win the lottery.
What's your favorite holiday?
Halloween.
What's your favorite movie?
I love movies. It's hard for me to pick just one. When I was little I loved Star Wars (the ones that came out in the 70's and 80's).
Who's the greatest character in all of literature?
I love mysteries so I would have to say Sherlock Holmes.
What's your favorite cartoon?
Scooby Doo when I was growing up. Now it's the Simpsons.
What place in the United States would you most like to visit?
Hawaii!
What's the most Redneck / White trash thing you've ever done?
I rode in an old pickup truck in Arkansas across the county line (in the middle of the night) just to buy beer.
What's your favorite tree?
I like oak trees.
What's in your purse?
My wallet, cell phone, a small notepad, a red pen and two safety pins.
Is the Honor Code as important today as it was 15 years ago?
Yes, I think it is. I'm so proud to be part of an institution that values integrity and personal responsibility.
Is it as important as it should be?
Yes, the Honor Code IS West Point. It is what connects all graduates - something we call the Long Gray Line.
