The Montgomery Biscuits used a 14-hit attack to come from behind and beat the visiting West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (Mariners), 8-6.
SS Reid Brignac hit his first home run of the young season in the 4th inning, a 3-run shot, to give the Biscuits the early lead. Brignac's shot also scored CF Fernando Perez and LF Jason Pridie, both who had singled to start the inning.
The lead didn't last long, though. A double, an RBI single, and a 2-run homer tied the game in the 5th inning.
In the 7th, West Tenn made it 6-3 on a hit batsman, two walks, a stolen base, a double, and a wild pitch.
The Biscuits closed the gap in the last of that frame, scoring 2 runs on 3 singles and a double. With one out, RF Shaun Cumberland singled. DH John Jaso doubled, sending Cumberland to third. C Josh Arhart singled, scoring Cumberland and moving Jaso to third. 2B Josh Asanovich grounded out to the pitcher, but Jaso scored on the play, making it a 6-5 deficit.
The Biscuits took the lead again in the 8th. Reid Brignac reached on a liner left. 3B Evan Longoria then doubled center field, scoring Brignac. Longoria moved to third on a fly ball out to right. After Cumberland was intentionally walked, Jaso reached on a fielder's choice, and Longoria scored, giving the Biscuits a 7-6 lead. Arhart then grounded into a force out to the shortstop, and Shaun Cumberland scored on the play, making it 8-6 for the Biscuits.
The lead held up when Dale Thayer held West Tenn scoreless in the 9th, setting down three of four batters.
Thayer picked up the save, his first this season. Nick Debarr, who came in during the West Tenn half of the 7th inning, pitched an inning an a third, and was credited with the win.
Brian Henderson threw an inning and 2/3 of relief of starter Derek Feldkamp, who pitched 4 innings, and faced 3 batters in the 5th.
Richard De Los Santos pitched a hitless inning of work, but was charged with two earned runs after giving way to Debarr.
The 5-game series continues Saturday, as the two teams face off at 7:05 CT / 8:05 ET at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium.
