Catfish Drop Another To Charleston

Columbus Catfish logoFor the second night in a row, the Charleston RiverDogs (Yankees) beat the Columbus Catfish. The Catfish couldn't overcome an early Charleston lead, and fell 7-4.

Charleston scored 2 unearned runs in the 1st inning, then 2 in the 2nd on a walk and 3 singles.

The Catfish closed the gap in the 4th when 2B Joey Callender had an RBI single that scored C Nevin Ashley. But Charleston answered with a run in the bottom of the 4th.

Catfish CH Desmond Jennings led the 5th with a solo shot to left. Later in the inning, LF Ryan Royster singled to left, driving in 3B Cesar Suarez.

Threee singles and a double in the Charleston 7th put the Catfish in a 7-3 deficit.

SS Brett Grandstrand drove in RF Maiko Loyola, but that was all the Catfish could muster.

Starter Woods Fines lasted 3-2/3 innings, allowing 5 runs, 3 earned, on 7 hits and 5 walks. He also had a strikeout. He's now 1-2.

Reliever Chris Kelly went 3-1/3, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. He also had a strikeout. Ryan Owen pitched a perfect 8th, striking out 2.

The Sunday game is the finale of this series. The Catfish need a win to earn another split. Except for this week's sweep of Rome, every Catfish series this season has been a split.
