Asheville put up a run in the first, on a double, a walk, and a 2-out single. They added another in the 6th on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly.
The 7th saw the Catfish take the lead. 3B Cesar Suarez led the inning with a single to right. DH Nevin Ashley followed with a single on a ground ball to center field. With 1 out, both runners advanced on a balk. Suarez scored on a wild pitch, while Ashley moved to third. 2B Brett Grandstrand hit a sacrifice fly to the right fielder, scoring Ashley. 1B Matt Fields and C Matt Spring both walked. Following a pitching change, SS Jairo De La Rosa tripled, plating Fields and Spring, and the Catfish were up 4-2.
P Neal Frontz came in for the Catfish in the bottom of the 7th, and set down the bottom of the Asheville order. The top of the order spelled problems, though. In the 8th, after getting 2 outs, Frontz allowed 5 straight hits, and Asheville scored 3 runs, taking a 5-4 lead.
The Catfish managed to put a runner on third with 2 outs in the 9th, but were unable to bring him in.
Frontz took the loss, his 2nd ... and his 2nd blown save in 2 save chances.
De La Rosa led Catfish batters, going 2-for-3, with 2 RBIs on his 7th inning triple. Four Catfish runners were stranded, 3 in scoring position.
The 3rd game of the series is Sunday. The road trip wraps up Monday.
Do they serve catfish and biscuits at these ball games?
