(Note: The title of this post? It's from this little blog's very first post.)
It's been one heck of a year. At least, as of 7:30 PM, it will have been.
That's when this little blog will officially be one year old.
Yes, one year ago today, this little blog was born. We've had some fun. We've had some disappointments. But mostly, we've been surprised by the outpouring of support we've received from you ... and from other blogs.
Thank you.
I've been looking back over some of the first posts we made here. When we started, my thoughts were to have one post a day. And we've done that. And then some.
I'm not a genius, but I'm smart enough to know that the writing here isn't all that good. At least, not when it's me doing the writing. The guests that show up from time-to-time bring two things: quality, and visitors.
The most amazing thing to me is the number of blogs that link here. Did all those sites lose a bet or something? But a lot link here.
Remember the noise made when NZ Bear decided to quit counting TrackBacks in the Ecosystem rankings? I wondered how much of an impact it would have. Well, so far, we've dropped a net 6 spots in the Ecosystem: #39 on November 14 to #45 on December 8. Sure, Bear has some more adjustments to make. But so far, as things settle down, it looks like this little blog is going to wind up in the top 50 for now.
And that amazes me. The Ecosystem ranking isn't because of TrackBacks! It's because people are linking here for ... Lord knows why!
But I'm glad they do. I'm thrilled to be just a mouse-click away from readers of some of the best writing by some of the best people in the world. I don't understand it, but I certainly appreciate it.
Like I said, this has been one heckuva year. Heck, it's been my favorite year. Thank you.

Happy Birthday Basil's Blog #2 - Must be the Ohio water or something - Hi Lima! People link to you because you have the courtesy to care about the people trying to communicate with you and your readers! There are many places out there that never respond - at that point you need to write like a professional (or - or - or remember what you were saying!) Only the Best for your future!
ReplyDelete[...] basil has turned one! His place is one of my daily stops for several reasons. The three square meals a day, despite what a certain bear may say, are a great place for me to find interesting reads. His take on the news is also a big reason I return each day. His sense of humor is skewed in the same direction as mine. So go on over, wish him a happy one, then go give him a blogiversary vote for best new site. [...]
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on one year.

Happy Birthday, Basil. I wish I could track my birthday to the hour. Since I've moved twice since I was born I'm not even sure of the month of mine.

ReplyDeleteIt's called being a nice guy. Honesty, sincerity, integrity. You can write about the leaves falling off the trees. About the wind blowing. But no one is gonna come round if'n they don't like ya.
The net likes Basil. Happy Birthday!
Congratulations basil, happy Blogday! We love you because you're a real sweetheart. It's people like you that make the blogosphere fun!

ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing I'm not a politician. I've discovered I'm absolutely no good at promoting myself so I've decided to start campaigning for other people. Common Sense Runs Wild is a finalist for Best New Blog and of course...
