Fantasy Supper

During our extended weekend trip, we stayed Friday night in Columbia, Tennessee. We have a niece that lives there, and another that lives near there. They are sisters, the wife's brother's daughters. The older is married and is now expecting her first child, and the younger is in high school.

This was my first trip here. While I know the nieces, I don't really know their mother. They had moved to Tennessee before I came into the picture, but saw the nieces during their trips to see their father.

Anyway, we wanted to take them out to supper Friday night. They played phone tag a lot. Actually, they had a bunch of little conversations that got about as much accomplished as phone tag. But, finally the question was asked and answered: Q: "Where do you want to go to supper?" A: "Fantasy"

"Fantasy?" What kind of place could that be. I had been to a place with a similar name in Jacksonville years ago. Oh, I never told you about that, did I? Okay, then...

It was some time in the 1980s, I don't recall the exact year. But my birthday was coming, and the folks at the truckstop, where I worked, were kind enough to want to take me out to supper. They were some good people.

They told me that Chi-Chi's was a good place to eat. I had never been. There was one located in the Arlington area in Jacksonville, so plans were made. One detail I had overlooked was that those planning the event were all male. You should never overlook the details.

The big night came and we headed over that way. We didn't all go in one vehicle, nor did we all drive separately. Anyhow, we crossed the Mathews Bridge to Arlington, but made a turn I didn't expect. We ended up at a place called Fantasy World. And this is not the place in Jacksonville that's now called Children's Fantasy World Pre-School. No, this was a different place entirely. Oh, how shall I describe it? I guess no beating around the bush ... so to speak ... and just tell you: It was a tittie bar.

It was my first visit to one of those places. Whether or not it was my last is not the subject of the day. But, here I was, having told the wife (now the ex-) that the guys at work were taking me to Chi-Chi's for my birthday. So, what was I going to do?

Easy, I went inside. I'm not stupid.

We were there for a couple of hours. Maybe more. Maybe much more. I wasn't looking at my watch. But I was looking and watching.

Now, I don't drink. Never did. But, you know that Cokes cost as much as everything else in a tittie bar? Well, they do. I don't know how many Cokes I bought. I wasn't counting. I wasn't the only one drinking Cokes, either. Remember the private detective that worked for the truckstop? He was one of the guys in on this little birthday surprise. And he was drinking Cokes. I don't think he's abstains from drink; I think he just wanted to be sober and look at titties.

After spending a few hours there ... and spending lots of dollar bills ... we left. And, of course, I was questioned about how it was and everything when I got home. And I told where we went. Stupid? Nope. It was the right thing to do. And, besides, the couch wasn't that uncomfortable.

So, this past weekend, when the wife told me that we were taking the nieces to supper at a restaurant called "Fantasy," now you know my frame of reference. When the younger niece arrived, we had a little visit then left for supper. I was wondering about this place called "Fantasy."

Found out there was a mis-communication. Turns out the place was called "Santa Fe." No, I'm not making this up. But, at least, after 20 years, I went out for Southwest cuisine. And, this time, I got to keep all the dollar bills in my pocket.

  1. Well, let's see. If you refer to Santa Fe, yes it was added to the credit card. If you refer to Fantasy World, the tip ... and the rest of it ... stayed where it should have stayed.

  2. I'm still trying to figure out how Fantasy came from Santa Fe....dyslexic maybe? Humorous story though!

  3. Thanks. As for the reason for the transposition of syllables, I'm not sure myself. But I learned a while back that sometimes it's best to just nod your head, go along for the ride, and see what happens.

  6. Your tittie bar sounds a lot like a gentleman's club I once went to.

I kept givin' those poor girls money to buy some clothes and every time they came out in a new outfit it fell right off. It was the damnedest thing.
