It's A Pundit

Holy crap!

That's about where my thoughts are right now. It started as in idea in February. I tinkered with it for a bit, getting it closer and closer to what I wanted. Still, nothing more than just an idea.

Last week, Harvey posted the Filthy Lie assignment concerning what Evil Glenn Reynolds would be doing for April Fool's Day. That seemed to fit with what I had working, so I kicked it into gear to get it ready. Including registering a domain name.

As I was putting the finishing touches on it, I got an e-mail from Beth suggesting a coordinated effort of some kind. I offered the site. Several loved the idea. So, I sent out Author invitations and it started.

The Instapundit parody site It's A Pundit launched with a handful of posts.

Friday morning, I saw a positive response from several places, and issued a few more invitations. Not all accepted, but several did. And, boy did they ever deliver!

Friday was one of the most enjoyable days I have ever had reading a blog. And it was my blog. But the content wasn't mine. It belonged to some of the brightest minds on the planet.

Well, April 1st has passed. But I'm leaving the site there. Maybe someone hasn't seen it. Or, and this is my hope, the people who gave so much enjoyment to everyone yesterday will continue to drop by and post stuff.

Maybe they'll post some serious stuff. Some serious stuff was posted yesterday.

Maybe they'll post some silly stuff. Some silly stuff was posted yesterday.

Maybe they'll post some of the brilliance like what came from their minds yesterday.

The site remains up, and will remain up.

Even if no one else ever posts anything there, I'll have Friday, April 1st 2005 for the rest of my life.

To all of you, all that wrote, all that linked, all that read: Thank you!

  4. Basil, it was an act of genius.

There will be bigger evil hermaphroditic puppy-blending fish to fry. Keep up the good work and make us all laugh till we piss our pants.

  5. basil, that WAS genius!

Thanks for letting us play in your yard--what an effing AWESOME AFD! You can be sure that I at least will keep posting there as long as you let us do it...or at least until I realize it's boring being a puppy blender...LOL

And I, too, would kill to see the site stats for the day.

Basil certainly pulled out all the stops for April Fool's Day, and, like Beth, I must crown him King of April Fool's DayOthers tried. Wizbang gave it a shot, but, you knew it had to be a joke. IMAO, knew

Yesterday for April Fool's, several websites had a lot of fun with their readers. A lot of humor ran rampant around the Net, and people were having a lot of laughs. basil, however, is the King of Them All™ for

  16. Just remember, if you need any more Glenns to wreak havoc, the infamous Glizzenn Reynolds is still on the loose.

  19. I said it before, I'll said it again.

    It was pure genius.

I'm pretty sure I heard Sortapundit mumbling: "They took my stapler"

  20. Woah, woah, woah - I'm not that fat crazy arsonist guy.

I set my own hours, sleep in every morning until at least 10, and only see my boss once or twice a fortnight. I'm Ron Livingston post-hypnosis (except I don't sleep with Jennifer Aniston - yet).

  21. I like the idea of keeping it going, Basil. It is a great spot to throw a quick shout out for a post or article that one has seen that we wouldn't usually throw a quick link to on our regular blogs.

  22. We'll even chip in for the bandwidth costs, right guys? *everyone runs away* Awww, fiddlesticks.

  23. I'm with Teach. I'm really enjoying writing in schtick. I never imagined burning squirrels and ferrying dead mexicans could be so much fun. No need to let it die.

  24. You obviously put a ton of work into it, Basil, and it showed. Great idea and even better execution. Glad you're leaving it running.

  25. How many of us were there? About 8 or so? We could all kick in for the Typepad costs, it's not that much, if that is what Basil used. I'd be up for it. Fortunately, Typepad is not charge for going over ones bandwith at this time.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'll kick in for costs too.

I have to say though, I'm about to go crazy trying to figure out who a couple of the Glenns are (I've got most of the ones who posted figured out, but not all).

    BEST GROUP BLOG, EVER!

  27. ************************************************************

I need to jump in right now before anyone else makes such an offer.

I incurred no extra hosting expense for the ItsAPundit.com site. My account with TypePad for this little blog comes with the ability to have other blogs and other authors. So, it cost me nothing to add the blog and have others post there.

    But thanks!

  28. Okay. I've read all the comments so far, and hit all the trackbacks.

Let me say again: You guys were ... and are ... awesome. Thanks for a wonderful April 1st.

The site is up and running. I added a sitemeter to it. I looked at information I was able to gather from TypePad info and other such stuff and came up with what I think is a reasonalbly accurate figure for yesterday. The numbers were, for me, through the roof. There are big blogs who will look at those numbers and say "Phhht." I'm not that big. I think 2100+ visits and 5700+ hits is a lot.

    Thanks again everyone!

  29. basil,

Not sure who those people are, but I bet they're having fun.

And I'm sure they're quite relieved to hear they don't need to kick in any scratch for bandwidth 8-)

And I bet they didn't get as much work done as they should have yesterday, but they'll keep posting.

  30. basil's Fools

Oh, so basil is the one behind this "itsapundit.com" thing. OK, but who are the wackos posting over there?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Reading your comment about your "reasonably accurate figure", I am reminded of a conversation in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home when McCoy tells Spock that Kirk feels safer with his (Spock's) guesses than with other people's facts.
    Good job...

  32. Indeed. 'Twas much fun for all, and I think it should stay, but that's just the Wonkita in me talking;-)

  37. Glenn are you listening?

Cory at BoingBoing points to the geniuses behind the April fools spoof site BoringBoring. I myself think the genius behind It's A Pundit deserves similar notice from Glenn. But then, that's not why he did it. Full disclosure: I've been...
