I'm Baaack!

I want to express my thanks to phin and moehawk for taking care of things while the wife and I were on our long weekend. I knew things would be in good hands with a fish on guard duty and an ace reporter keeping everyone informed.

I asked the guest-bloggers at the last minute. I mean, Friday morning is when I asked them. And we left Friday morning. While I was getting ready to leave. That's how last minute it was. I know, that wasn't fair to them. But you know what? Being the troopers they are, they jumped right in.

Because I waited so late, I had written posts and scheduled them to appear Friday at Lunch and Supper, and the Friday evening Headline News on Friday. It was completely unnecessary. And, to top it off, my Big Sister (who's 5'4") interrupted her busy week to help out.

One other thing. There were some very nice things said by phin on Sunday night. I really appreciate those comments. Thanks.

Thanks to all of you for keeping things going and under control. I owe you guys. Big time.

Now, where we went and why:

We went to Tennessee. Got some nieces there. And we got to see them, but family surgery (their step-father) and other commitments prevented it from being as long a visit as we wanted. But we got to see them a little. More on supper with them tomorrow. Plus a flashback. And the "T" word!

Since Saturday meant the end of the visit, we decided not to come straight home. We stopped by Rome, Georgia. The Catfish were playing, and we thought catching a game was a good idea. Friday's game, we found out later, was just one of those days, with Rome beating the Catfish, 8-3. Saturday's game, which we did make, was a hard-fought contest, with the Catfish leading going to the bottom of the eighth inning. Then the bottom fell out. Rome won that one, too.

Being late, we stayed the night, then went to the Sunday afternoon game. That game was close for a while, but then got a little out of hand. Thing is, it was Columbus that was winning. And the Catfish short road trip ended on a good note, with a 7-to-0 win.

The players were happy with the Sunday win, but they know they had games 1 and 3 won, but couldn't hold on to the lead. That hurts. A 1-3 road trip could easily have been a 3-1 trip. But that's just what could have been, not what was. Oh, well.

Monday's an off day for the Catfish, and they open a home stand on Tuesday. I'm looking forward to that. A lot more than work Monday morning.

  4. Sounds like you had a pretty good time, even if the Catfish aren't winning all their games. Welcome back.

Hey basil--we were on 30 or so miles from each other. Ash and I were in Calhoun to see Tori (Barry's middle one) in Annie Get Your Gun. She was Annie and did an OUTSTANDING job. We got caught in a hail storm twice Friday going up. The Jeep held up though. Sorry your trip was cut short. I am catching up on my reading and formulating a post.
