The interview panel is ready with their questions...
First question...
What did you think of the whole dust-up over Heyden's being selected to head the CIA?
It's what it always is, politics. The Democrats thought Bush would be weakened by bringing up torture, CIA prisons, Iraq, and the NSA. So they dragged out the hearing which allows Senators TV time and coverage about their pontifications. Largely, they were successful in using the occasion as another platform to beat on Bush. They can appeal to the far-left fringe at the same time and keep their base energized and their pockets open. Bush, for some reason, has decided that he will only campaign in campaign season, so it seems he lets himself get beat up all year long and then comes on strong during election season. It's worked so far, we'll see if it works in 2006. If recent polls are any indication, Bush does far better when he fights back.
