For the first time this season, the Catfish won back-to-back games on the road when they took game one, 7-2. Brandon Weedon, who has pitch excellent this season but has a losing record to show for it, took the win, allowing but one hit in the first five innings, and only three overall.
Of our two players, Dan Batz went hitless, but Lucas May had a hit and scored a run.
In the second game, another pitching masterpiece, this time by Scott Elbert, who took a no-hitter into the 6th inning, as the Catfish won, 6-1, and have now won three in a row.
While hitless, Luke drove in a run and scored a run. Dan had a hit, and still has the highest batting average on the team.
This was the first road series win for the Catfish, and they are 8-2 over the last 10 games, best in the league over that period.
Friday night, it's the Catfish hosting the Asheville Tourists (Rockies) in the first game of a four-game series.
Always nice to read your site. Their arent many fish fans around. I sure am glad the team is winning now. We may be far out now, but I've got high hopes for the second half of the season. Luckily, after 70 games you start over again in this league!

ReplyDeleteYes, like Scarlett said "Tomorrow is another day." Split season means hope spring eternal.
And you've got me curious now. I'm guessing you're Columbus area, with the AOL Screen Name (referencing the Cottonmouths?). If so, I imagine I'll be spending time at the games trying to figure out which of the few fans in attendance you are.
For a second I thought you meant Catfish Hunter (displaying age for all to see)...it's not impossible...after all, I heard Oil Can Boyd is mounting a comeback and Ricky Henderson is still playing semi-pro or something...
ReplyDeleteShowing my age, too. I remember Catfish Hunter, Rollie Fingers, and that whole crew Dick Williams fielded back then. I hated them guys, they were so good.

I love that Catfish logo!
ReplyDeleteThe team has received a lot of positive press because of that logo. It's the second time a Columbus (Georgia) baseball team has had a hit logo involving a catfish. Back in 1989, the Columbus Mudcats got lots of press and sold lots of souvenirs ... before they packed up and left two years later and became the Carolina Mudcats.
