Housekeeping

I've got some site-related clean-up to do. No, I'm not talking about removing spam from the comments. Large blogs have problems with spam comments. I'm not big enough or important enough for something like that. No, the site-related clean-up I'm talking about involves coming clean about things I was too lazy to do, then too scatterbrained to find what I needed to make it right. Well, I've stumbled across what I had lost, and will try to make amends now. Let me explain.

When I launched this blog, I had no idea what I was getting into. I thought I'd just try it and see. I explained much of this in my very first post. I had no plan on how often I'd write anything, or what I'd write about. But, I wrote. I also visited other sites, which I explained in that first post. And, from comments I left there, some people followed the link back to my blog. And some like what they read. And some told me so. I followed links back to their sites of those that left comments.

I need to interrupt to let you know something about the computer we have at the house. We have four computers. There are two of us. If that sounds like overkill, I get it honest. So let me interrupt my interruption to explain.

There was a short period of time where the four of us children were living with my parents after all of us were of driving age. And we all had cars. So, that meant there could be six vehicles in the yard at one time, right? Wrong. Twelve. Yes, the six of us had twelve operating vehicles. You could count the vehicles in the yard, subtract six, and know how many people were home.

So, anyway, me and the wife have four computers. She has a kick-ass Dell. It's a little over a year old, but it does a good job. It's a Pentium 4 PC running Windows XP Home. I use the Gateway laptop most of the time. It's a Celeron running Windows XP Pro. In the back office is my old Gateway. It's an Athlon running Windows XP Pro. And there's a home-made PC running SuSE Linux 9.1. They are networked together, sharing the HP Laser printer (old Gateway) and the HP DeskJet (Dell), and the Internet connection (cable modem). The laptop and the Dell are using a wireless network connection, while the old Gateway and the Linux PC are connected by cables.

I told you all that to let you know that I might be on one computer and save something or bookmark something, then be on another compute and not be able to find it, and think that maybe I never saved it or bookmarked it in the first place.

Anyway, people left comments. And I'd check their sites out. But, I'd misplace the bookmark. And, since this blogging was all new to me, I was still working out all the tricks on adding sites to my BlogRoll. I'm better at it now, by the way. Anyway, I've been modifying the look of the blog a bit at a time. I decided to add a "Testimonial" section. Then, it occurred to me to check the past comments and see if I could make use of any of that. Then I found some of the early comments, and some had links to the commentor's blog. So, I went back and was able to find some of the blogs I liked but lost before BlogRolling them. Now's my chance to say something nice about the folks that were nice to me and gave me reading pleasure.

I really appreciate the comments from
They were kind enough to leave comments, and I didn't respond immediately. And because I didn't, they got overlooked. And that was wrong. So I'm telling everyone how much I appreciate their comments.

Others that were kind enough to leave comments and to whom I did responded in some manner include:
Thanks to these bloggers, and to everyone who stopped by and were nice. I appreciate the kind words, even if you were joking when you said them.

  1. For some reason I was under the impression you'd been blogging for years -- maybe the quality and confidence.

  2. awwww, basil, you're welcome.
If what I said was nice, I meant it.
    Otherwise....just kidding.

And thanks for being such a good commenter on my blog, too.

Thanks. I can't address the quality. You ought to see the looks I get from the wife. As for the confidence, most folks I work with would apply the term "arrogance."

    But, seriously, thanks.

About my commenting on your blog, I guess you're on to me: I'm a link-whore.

But really, thanks for the comments.

  4. Thanks for the nice words here and at my site--link whoring or not, it doesn't matter to me. I definitely appreciate your wit!

Who needs Drudge or Scrappleface when we have basil? ;-)

(And damn, I didn't even get to shout "FIRST!" here, either.)

  5. i believe basil is emerging as the new funny man on the blogosphere. Frank J. just put up a post about doing everything he could to increase traffic in the early days (didn't call it link-whoring but i bet it was!)
just so you know, basil, i've turned my little bro and my Republican uncle on to your site, i know my bro has gotten more than one laugh from your wit, and i bet my uncle has too. next time i see him, i'll ask him just to be sure!
until then, just keep doing what you do to make me laugh!
