275,000

I've been quite surprised by the number of visitors to this little blog. When this little blog launched, I figured I'd be lucky to get 10 visitors a day. Well, since Day One, we've averaged 519.5 visitors a day. Recent numbers are higher (averaging 1979 visitors a day), but that's because of two Instalanches this month. (These numbers are according to SiteMeter; server numbers show more.)

Now, I'm fully aware that many, many blogs get more visitors than that. And rightly so. What's shocked me is that this little blog is averaging that many.

Sure, it's 0.4% of the number of hits Instapundit gets a day. But I'm averaging in a week what I only dreamed I'd get in a year. And I don't understand why people come here.

275000The reason I'm bringing this up now is that, this week, we got our 275,000th visitor. And it came from blog-granddad Instapundit.

Well, it wasn't Glenn Reynolds that was visitor 275,000. No, rather it was a visitor who arrived from an Instapundit post where he linked to a post here.

Yeah, I know. 275,000 isn't a normal number to make a big deal about. 250,000 would have been more appropriate. But it slipped by without my noticing. And, by the time I noticed, the details had rolled off the stats. So, I figured "What the heck." 275,000 it is.

No, this little blog doesn't deserve that many hits in my lifetime, much less in a year and a half. But I'm overwhelmed by it.

This will never be a big-time blog like Instapundit, Michelle Malkin, IMAO, or such. I know that. You know that. It's not secret.

But I'm absolutely thrilled by the number of people that stop by here ... either on purpose or by accident.

Thank you.

  1. Congrats, Basil, you deserve it!

Sorry it's taken me so long to comment - I can read you from behind the firewall at work but apparently cannot comment or trackback from there, though why I cannot figure out. At any rate, I have to read from there and come home and post from here. Such is the life of a semi-computer-literate yak.

  2. I found you through Michelle Malkin's site. I was thrilled when I realized you were in Columbus, Ga., city of my birth.
I went to St. Elmo, K-4th grade & we moved to TX when I was 10 yrs. (Many moons ago) I have never posted on any site, though I am getting over my shyness with this one.
One thing puzzles me: where is the lighthouse on the top of your site? I don't remember it on the Chattahoochie!
