Number one.
Let's think about it for a second.
My name is Basil. We've covered that before. It's pronounced BAZ-il. Short "a" sound (cat, fat, mat, bat), accent on the first syllable. We've covered that.
The thing is, not only is it my name, it's the name of others. For instance:
- Basil Rathbone. Played Sherlock Holmes in many movies.
- Basil Fawlty. A character played by John Cleese in the BBC series Fawlty Towers.
- St. Basil the Great. Bishop of Caesarea.
- Basil of Baker Street. Mouse detective, known in the U.S. as lead character in Disney's The Great Mouse Detective.
- Tony Basil. "Oh Mickey, you're so fine you're so fine you blow my mind, hey Mickey..." Remember that song?
- Basil White. Standup comedian.
- Basil Flint. Comic strip.
Then, there's the fact that "basil" is also the name of an herb. Pronounced "BAY-zil." Long "a" sound (cake, fate, mate, bait), accent also on the first syllable. Lots of people mispronounced my name that way.
Also, there are a truckload of Websites dedicated to recipes involving basil.
Anyway, the point is all those people ... real and fictional ... have Websites. As does the herb and recipes involving the herb.
And this little blog ranks above them all ... insofar as Google is concerned.
What's up with that?!
Number one Google search for "Basil." Or "basil." You pick.
Proof the world's going to Hell in a handbasket.
What a coincidence! I'm number one for, um diaphanous peignoir. Naturally, this coveted position has made me a millionaire many times over. Good luck with "basil," Basil.
ReplyDeleteThere is only one basil for us around her :D
ReplyDeleteCongrats basil, now only to get "Improper" to be number 1. Heh Heh.
ReplyDeleteCool! You are still in the top ten for "jamie lynn spears naked," too, basil :)
ReplyDeleteSean: Dude! I am not even in the top 100 on that search, either for Google or for Technorati. But perhaps that will change.
ReplyDeleteJo: Thank you!
ReplyDeleteAlabama: Oh, gosh. I've got 12 slots to go to catch you on that search!
William Teach: No, just hovering under. But that might change.
Jamie Lynn Spears: Thanks for not being naked here any more. The last thing we need here is Jamie Lynn Spears naked.
Although several Canadian, Iranian, and Pakistani youths still seem to miss you, according to the visitor referral logs.
I reckon people sometimes misspell "Jamie Lynn Spears." I mean, it could just as well have been Jami Lyn Speers. Or, Jamy Linn Speares. Or, Jaymie Lynne Speeres. And those are just the plausible misspellings, I'm not even counting "typos," like jaie lyn spers, or jamaie lnyn psaers. "Naked," being a more common word, is misspelled less frequently. To demonstrate the point, I shall write it, correctly spelled, four times: naked naked naked naked naked. You see? Oops. That was five times, wasn't it? Please disregard the fifth naked.
ReplyDeleteThat'd be a great blog tagling: "Please disregard the fifth naked."
ReplyDeleteWhere's Sortapundit when we need him? Ratchet up the blog war!
ReplyDeleteThat is really cool! Congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteWilliam Teach: Ah, Sortapundit. He stopped blogging for several months. Just visited and saw he has recently resumed posting. Perhaps he's back full-time now.
ReplyDeleteCathy: Thank you!
Well how about that, basil. Congrats on being #1...maybe you and Sortapundit should start another war. That was fun!
ReplyDeleteIf only those spammers would quit emailing me and asking me if I want to get to the top of the Google listings by using their service.
ReplyDeleteDuh! No!
I'm grateful that you're another Basil who pronounces his name correctly. I've just given up and answer to any approximate pronunciation.
ReplyDeleteI'm first on Google for "Basil White," then 143,105,301 pizza recipes and restaurant menus.
Yes, you certainly seem to appear to have "Basil White" locked up.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm tops for Basil White Trash. Which I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not...
I declare Basil White Trash war!
