moehawk

Let me tell you a little about moehawk. And it's moehawk. Not Moehawk. Or Mowhawk. Or Mohawk. But moehawk. Want to know where he came up with the name? I can't help you. Maybe it's his name. Like basil is my name. Maybe he made it up. Maybe that's an old nickname from school. Or prison. Maybe he stole someone's credit cards and took their identity. I don't know where the name came from. Go ask him.

Anyway, moehawk's been coming to this little blog from way back. He was the third person to comment here. Actually, it was on Blogger/Blogspot at the time. But you get my point. On December 16, 2004, moehawk said:

you're pretty funny! not quite as funny as Frank J, but funny enough that i bookmarked your site. by the way...you're a good debater too!

That's high praise, because I, too, think Frank J. is one funny man. Of course, if he doesn't start posting seven days a week, I'm going to top him on Google searches for IMAO. But, enough of that. More about moehawk.

He was a regular commenter then, and has continued to be. I wondered why he didn't start his own blog. He obviously enjoyed traveling the blogosphere, had a sense of humor, and had many talents. He just kept reading and commenting. And, when this blog moved from Blogger to TypePad, he followed. And, he updated his bookmark almost immediately.

There was a period of a few hours where the "behind the scenes" URL of this site was visible rather than the public "basilsblog.net" and moehawk updated his bookmark during that time. That's a real fan. Or a stalker. I'm not sure which. Anyway, he finally started up his own blog.

On Friday, March 18, 2005 at 12:59 AM, moehawk launched his site. The blogosphere welcomed oystersnout. And moehawk considers me his blog-daddy!

Me.

ME!

Hey, I'm not so sure about all this. I've been blogging for, like, 3½ months. Who am I to be assisting or guiding anyone? Nobody, that's who. But, what little I do know, I will share when wanted. I have been able to help him with his BlogRoll and removing some unwanted stuff from his sidebar. But with the time difference, it's not always easy to get together. See, he operates on Pacific Time. And I operate on Eastern Time. And I get up around 5:00 AM ET (2:00 AM PT). So, our times limit contact.

But, I do what little I can. However, he's not just relying on me. He's taken to learning some HTML in order to do a little more with his site and not be limited by the Blogger interface. So, he's got a sense of humor, an enjoyment of blogs, and talent. Plus initiative. That's good. That'll make all the difference as his little blog grows.

Oh, I know what you're going to ask. What's with the name "oystersnout?" Is it something related to his career? Is it something related to the Venus Butterfly? Just what does oystersnout mean? I don't know. Go ask him.

  2. so it could be related to the venus butterfly?

is the venus butterfly a mythical creature, kinda like the a person that promised to wave a scarf wearing a tight sweater?

You may be too young to remember the "LA Law" TV show. But, the "Venus Butterfly" is mythical.

Oh, but do keep reminding her of the hint of a promise!

  7. I'm perversely proud of the fact that his first 5 or so posts were centred on dissing me. I hope he gets really popular so I can take credit for it all.
